Dental Services

While the pandemic is active, and absent a vaccine, our dental practice will be limited in the number of patients seen per day to allow for enhanced office cleaning. We provide routine cleanings and fillings to specialized oral devices. Our office is equipped to handle all your dental needs. To help you understand your options please discuss your concerns with the doctor.

Dental Sleep Disorders

Over the last few years, it has become evident that our dental family has a significant amount of night-time apneic events.  We are hearing an inordinate amount of snoring complaints which indicates lack of the normal breathing patterns.

Dr. Dischler is certified in Dental Sleep Disorder evaluation. Some people are aware that they snore but do not realize how significant the lack of normal oxygenation can be to their health. This repetitive stopping and starting of one’s breathing while they sleep creates serious long-term health problems. Many of the symptoms seem unrelated to snoring but unresolved, the effects of these apneic events are hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, diabetes, and stroke. The symptoms of moderate to severe apnea is poor sleep quality or fragmented sleep, depression, dry mouth, early morning headache, weight gain, daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, onset of obesity, gastric reflux, and frequent night time urination. The sleeping partner is also affected by the loss of restful sleep and is usually the one to bring the abnormal sleeping patterns to our attention. Over 50% of adults suffer from obstructive sleep apnea or OSA. Despite the health risks many patients are unaware they have this disorder and less then 8% are ever tested. Although men are the primary cohort, obstructive sleep apnea is not isolated to males and post-menopausal women.

Mayo Clinic notes that if one of their patients has uncontrolled high blood pressure and are on multiple medications, these can be warning signs for OSA. For those at risk, our office can order an in-home sleep study to determine the severity of the OSA. The results of the sleep test will determine what level of treatment is needed. The gold standard to treat moderate to severe OSA is a Continuous Positive Air Pressure machine called a CPAP. Mild to moderate OSA can be treated in our office with an oral appliance called a Herbst Appliance.
